CNN stops broadcasting in Russia

After Russia’s attempt to invade Ukraine, many countries and institutions in the world announced sanctions against Russia, while media organizations are suspending their activities in Russia. Russia also bans some news platforms.

“CNN will stop broadcasting in Russia while we continue to evaluate the situation and our next steps,” CNN said in a statement.

Access to some news sites, including the BBC, has been blocked in Russia. Russia cited a law that “makes it a crime to spread fake news” as the reason for the decision. The BBC has announced that it will temporarily suspend the activities of its journalists in Russia.

Access to the BBC Russian Service, as well as Deutsche Welle, Meduza and Radio Liberty, was also restricted, according to the Russian state news agency RIA. The BBC’s English news site is also inaccessible in Russia.

Netflix also froze its projects in Russia.
