Eintracht Frankfurt: Despite the slap in the face – DFB acquittal for Martin Hinteregger – Bundesliga

Great luck for Eintracht’s defense boss Martin Hinteregger (29)! Despite his slap against Freiburg’s Philipp Lienhart (25), the Austrian does not have to fear subsequent punishment from the DFB sports court.

When asked by BILD, the DFB said: “The DFB control committee will not initiate any proceedings in this regard because the conditions for the subsequent punishment of grossly anti-sports behavior according to § 8 No. 8 of the DFB’s legal and procedural rules do not exist here. The scene was checked in detail by the video assistants, the referee then decided on (simple) foul play and thus made a factual decision.

Good for Eintracht and Hinteregger, of course, because the defender could have been suspended for at least three games. Because: Hinteregger had given his compatriot Lienhart a good slap in the face with his left hand in a duel in the 74th minute. Everyone could see that on the television pictures, but apparently not for VAR Pascal Müller. Inexplicable how Müller could not see the slap in the face.

Hinteregger and Lienhart did not want to comment on the incident when asked by BILD. The fact that Hinti didn’t even see another yellow card from referee Brych and thus a red card shows that the referee didn’t notice the scene at all. Curious that the VAR did not intervene.
