Fan protest and sow injury: Eintracht Frankfurt loses to SC Freiburg | hessenschau.de

A fan protest, an early substitution by Djibril Sow and another joker goal by Nils Petersen: Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg deliver an attractive Bundesliga game that the Hessians narrowly lose. Eintracht despairs of exploiting their own chances.

Between the first and second leg against FC Barcelona, Eintracht Frankfurt in the Soccer Bundesliga have to accept defeat. Coach Oliver Glasner’s team lost their home game against SC Freiburg 1-2 (0-1) on Sunday. Filip Kostic was able to equalize the Freiburg opening goal by Vincenzo Grifo (27th) after the break (54th). Shortly before the final phase, SC noble joker Nils Petersen restored the old distance (69).

However, before football could really be played, the game was interrupted in the second minute due to a protest: Two men had each tied themselves to a post of Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp’s goal with cable ties. As the hosts moved forward, the two men ran onto the field past security, stood at the posts and tied their necks to the poles. The men wore T-shirts that read: “Last Generation – Stop the fossil madness”.

Frankfurt puts pressure, Freiburg the gate

Trapp spoke briefly to one of those involved, while fans in the ranks shouted abuse and booed. Almost three minutes later, the two people were removed from the post and led off the pitch. A similar incident happened in the English Premier League a few weeks ago. Back then, during Everton’s game against Newcastle United, a 21-year-old tied himself to a goalpost with a cable tie around his neck. He was wearing a t-shirt that said, “Just stop oil.”

Back to the sporting events in Frankfurt, where Eintracht initially had much more to offer than their guests from Freiburg. Rafael Borré (11th) and Jens Petter Hauge (17th) had the first chances of the game, but either just missed the SC box or didn’t put goalkeeper Mark Flekken under enough pressure. The same applied to the Barca goalscorer Ansgar Knauff (17′), ten minutes later Hauge tried again. The Hessians put pressure on – but the sports club made the goal.

Grifo puts the SC in the lead

After Ermedin Demirovic had already tentatively worked his way up to Eintracht’s goal (22nd), Grifo scored five minutes later to make it 1-0 for the Breisgau team. The 29-year-old, who played for FSV Frankfurt a few years ago, completed a consistently played counterattack to a somewhat surprising lead. The starting point for the SC attack was a bad pass from Evan N’Dicka. But that’s not all from Eintracht’s point of view: A good quarter of an hour before the break, Djibril Sow had to be substituted after knee treatment. There was initially no information about the nature and severity of a possible injury.

In the second half, too, it was initially only the Glasner team that dominated the game. And how. The Hessians came out of the dressing room with steam and celebrated the alleged equalizer seven minutes after the restart – but Jesper Lindström was clearly offside immediately before his goal. A damper on mood and performance? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that.

Kostic equalizes – great pass from Hauge

Just two minutes later, Kostic (54th) made it 1-1 on the video cube. Hauge initiated the goal with a fantastic outside instep pass across the center line. However, Eintracht then failed to turn the game around and take the lead. Hauge with an attempt directly at Flekken (56′), Kostic with a full left-footed shot (57′), Borré on the side netting (58′) and Lindström (67′) missed good Frankfurt chances in a storm and urge phase.

And what usually happens in football in such cases? Exactly: Instead of scoring yourself, the opponent scores a goal – as in the first round. After a free kick from the left field, it was Petersen who scored his 33rd wildcard goal in the Bundesliga eight minutes after coming on (69′). Ajdin Hrustic, who was also a substitute, missed the best chance to equalize again, and his left-footed shot hit the inside of the post (84′). And: A headed goal by Daichi Kamada in the final phase was correctly taken back by the VAR (86th).

And now: Barcelona

1: 2 against Freiburg: After the last seven competitive games in a row without defeat, Eintracht Frankfurt loses a match for the first time since the end of February. And should now get his heads and legs fit for the European Cup highlight at the Camp Nou in Barcelona as quickly as possible.
