FCN in promotion fever: This is how Dieter Hecking thinks about the season finale! – 2nd Bundesliga
“We can now raise the visor and attack!”
★★★
FCN coach Robert Klauß (37) surprised many observers with such statements after the home win over Darmstadt (3:1). For months he didn’t want to use the word “ascension”.
But: Club boss Dieter Hecking (57) has now officially released the brake on ascent. Hecking to BILD: “I asked the team in the dressing room before Darmstadt whether we wanted to wait two more days or see what was going on. The team did an excellent job of doing that on Saturday.”
The FCN sports board on…
…the chances of advancement: “We’re in now, even if there’s still a gap and we still have the worst goal difference of all up there. But with such willpower as against Darmstadt, a lot can still happen. So the team can already look forward to the game against Bremen.”
…the season finale: “The team needs this greed and this consistency in the penalty area like against Darmstadt or Hamburg. That was something that was missing in Heidenheim at times. But that’s exactly what you need if you want to move up. Everyone has tough games now. Now it depends on who has the best nerves, who wants it a bit more than the opponent in every game. If you just slack off a bit in this tight fight for promotion, then you will have played a really good season in the end, but you will not have rewarded yourself even more.”
…Lukas Schlemmer: “I am happy for him and for our offspring. But I’m also happy for Cristian Fiel (coach U21/Editor’s note) because he cleared his head with Lukas again. It could have been difficult without Christian and his speech, but he seems to have caught him in the right place. Lukas has recognized the signs of the times that he has to start again if he wants to find a place in professional football.”
…current contract talks: “We are still in exchange and in talks with the consultants, there are no new water level reports. Good things are developing right now, everyone is aware of that. We also feel that in terms of the new season, especially with players who may want to come to us. We have to keep going like this and keep this charisma as a club. At the same time, we still need a certain humility. As a club, we come from a deep valley, now we’re back on top. I would like to see evenings like the one against Darmstadt more often.”
…Schweinsteiger’s future: “There’s nothing to report yet, I’ll sit down with Tobi again this week. There is a clear trend and it doesn’t look bad for the club.”
