The hardly consoling realization after the 0-1 defeat against Kiel is: HSV has real planning security even earlier this season than usual…
One thing is clear: From the summer onwards, the 2nd division will continue for the fifth time. On the other hand, it is unclear with which boss on the bench.
Even though it has currently been agreed to end the season with coach Tim Walter (46), his future depends on a crucial summit meeting.
After the end of the series, all club bosses (supervisory board, board members, coaches) will come together to relentlessly analyze the disappointing season in the league with the repeatedly missed return to the Bundesliga.
Decisive for a possible further like this with the same sporting management as well as Walter will depend on how conclusive the presented (new) concept will be.
How convincingly will Walter be able to sell his second attempt at promotion? Then the question will certainly have to be answered: Can Walter reinvent himself?
Will the coach modify his ball-oriented game philosophy, which is often spectacular and beautiful to look at but ultimately not successful enough for HSV goals? Or can the ex-Stuttgart coach even show another style of play as a possible plan B and thus reposition himself?
Walter’s former and longtime assistant coach Rainer Ulrich (72), who coached 93 games with him, says: “Tim usually sticks to the things he is convinced of. I don’t know if he’s willing to change anything.”
But it is also clear: If Walter continues to rely on his game system and is allowed to do so, professionals who can implement this philosophy more successfully must strengthen the squad.
And that could get damn expensive…
