The new OnePlus 10 Pro already comes with Android 12, for the OnePlus 9 (Pro) OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 has been distributed since the beginning of the year. In addition, the OnePlus 8 (Pro) and the OnePlus 8T are now being distributed. As far as I know, the (large-scale) distribution to European users has not yet started. And then there are the cheaper OnePlus Nord devices. The portfolio in the “Xiaomi style” should be there in the coming months known to be polished.
So far, no device from the mid-range Nord series has been equipped with Android 12. All the more surprising that the first OnePlus Nord (2020) is now preferred. After all, with the Nord 2, the smartphone is known to have a successor from last year. One can only speculate as to why that is. While the MediaTek processor performs well on paper and in practice, it could be a possible stumbling block for an early update to Android 12.
Nonetheless, there is good news for OnePlus Nord users, because there a first open beta version based on OxygenOS 12 is now available at. OxygenOS 12 comes due to the base of Android 12 with all sorts of Android innovations therefore, but also brings some advantages, the OnePlus donated to its own OxygenOS.
Unfortunately, the system has very little to do with the original Oxygen OS idea, but I’ve already left that out a lot elsewhere. Users benefit from new functions such as the adjustable Dark Mode in several stages, innovations for OnePlus Shelf and for the always-on display and sometimes from the newly added work-life balance mode. OnePlus has been offering the latter to Indian users for years, and now European users can also benefit from dedicated settings for leisure and work and the corresponding notification behavior.
As usual, it should be noted that OnePlus does not simply launch such an open beta version on the market, but has normally already tested it sufficiently. Nevertheless, inexperienced users in particular or those who cannot assess the risks and side effects of such a version should refrain from using it. In addition, it is sometimes difficult – at least without a reset and data loss – to return to an OS version without beta status. Note the instructions given in the instructions for the forum post. Anyone who is already longing for the update for their device should be told that it is at least in sight and that a stable version can certainly be expected in the coming weeks.
In any case, the known problems read only half as wildly. It can sometimes be that a button on the keyboard disappears. OnePlus’ own cloud cannot be used in this country anyway, so the problem mentioned should hardly affect you. There are probably also problems with the “Personal Safe” function and when using Snapchat. In addition, the display partially flickers after taking photos.
