PlayStation VR2: Further reference to release period

It looks like you won’t see PlayStation VR2 in stores again this year. Apparently there was a “shift” to the coming year. This is reported by Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants.
Sony is working on a successor to the PlayStation VR virtual reality headset released in 2016. while the technical details largely known are open, when the hardware should be brought to the market.
A few weeks ago there was a rumor that the fans only in early 2023 plunge into the higher resolution virtual worlds. This is an assumption that received tailwind again today.
Apparently Apple and Sony won’t start until 2023
According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Sony may not be able to launch the PSVR2 glasses before the end of the current year. In a tweet, he mentions that both Apple and Sony have delayed the launch of their VR headsets until 2023.
“VR display shipments grow more than 50 percent to more than 15 million in 2022 despite delays into 2023 at Apple and Sony. A big leap is predicted for 2023,” so Young.
The early announcement of almost everyone technical details at the beginning of the year suggested that Sony is actually working towards a 2022 release. However, the past two years have seen some turbulence within the technology industry, triggered in part by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, there are a number of factors for the choice of the publication period. The most obvious reason for a potentially later launch is that the chip shortage is unlikely to improve in the near future, which would mean availability cannot be resolved in time.
A direct consequence of the chip shortage is the PS5’s low install base compared to previous generations. While the PS5 is undoubtedly a success, sales are lower than they could have been had there been better availability. The shelves are still empty and scalpers and regular dealers often ask for the PS5 a four-digit sum.
The VR market is growing
Across glasses, Display Supply Chain Consultants expect rosy times for the VR segment, with 80 percent of the demand expected to come from Meta this year.
