Putin doesn’t care “whether these corpses are in Bucha or in Berlin”

What must follow from the atrocities of Bucha? The members of the Bundestag discussed this. The Minister of Defense also refused to criticize the arms deliveries.

Secretary of Defense Christina Lambrecht has justified the extensive secrecy in the delivery of arms to Ukraine with corresponding requests from the Ukrainian side. “If we don’t talk publicly about the type and number of weapons supplied, then there’s a good reason: Ukraine specifically asked for it. And we’re sticking to it,” she said SPD-Politician on Wednesday in a current hour of the Bundestag.

From a military point of view, it is a question of Russia remaining in the dark about the types and quantities of weapons supplied and not being able to prepare for them, said the minister. “The enemy is listening.” She had been asked repeatedly, especially from the ranks of the Union, to explain exactly which weapons Germany is actually supplying to Ukraine.

Lambrecht: The Putin system shouldn’t be allowed to win

Lambrecht emphasized that the Putin system should not win and not prevail. Otherwise everyone could no longer be sure. “Whoever acts like Putin doesn’t care if the bodies are on the streets of Bucha or from Tbilisi, Vilnius or Berlin.” Therefore, Ukraine must be supported in its fight against the Putin system – “wherever we can,” said the SPD politician. “And it’s not about making headlines or yourself morally easier.” In addition, Germany must learn “to be much more defensive”.

The defense minister reiterated that NATO and Germany should not risk becoming a war party themselves. “We must prevent a conflagration in Europe, with all the horrific consequences that ensue.”

CDU MP: “Germany does not live up to its responsibilities”

The Union foreign expert Johann Wadephul (CDU) called on the government to give up its reservations about the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine. The delivery of battle tanks and artillery shells must also be considered, Wadephul said in the current hour.

Ukraine needs such systems “to be able to survive,” he said. “Germany is simply not living up to its responsibility for Ukraine in this historic situation.”

In principle, however, Wadephul promised the government the support of his parliamentary group in Ukraine policy. “Here we have to stand together and stand together on the right side, the side of the Ukrainians,” he said.

The “Current Hour” in the Bundestag was from the government factions SPD, Greens and FDP been applied for. In such a forum, topics of general current interest can be discussed. It takes place at the request of, for example, a parliamentary group or at least five percent of the deputies.
