Tragic accident: Olympic sailor drowns at the age of 17

She died doing what she loved most. Eya Guezguez was with the last year Olympic Games in Tokyo at the age of just 16, she was the youngest participant in the competition. How among other things DailyStar reported the accident happened last Sunday when hey trained with the national team. Her boat suddenly capsized due to strong winds and the teenager was trapped underwater by the boat. She did not manage to free herself and therefore drowned. Particularly tragic: her teammate and sister, Sarra, was also on board. She couldn’t help Eya, but she herself was unharmed.

The death shook not only the family, but also many friends, fans and colleagues of the athlete. “We express our condolences to her family and loved ones,” posted a major Tunisian newspaper, for example Twitter. Also a friend of hey shared moving lines: “Your death was a dagger that pierced our hearts. Rest in peace, dear friend. You will remain with us forever.”
