Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister received a standing ovation at the UN

The 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council continued at the UN Geneva Office in Switzerland.

Addressing the council, Dzhaparova, regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, said: “Yes, we are under an inhuman attack. We are under a very cynical attack from a neighboring country. But now is not the time to shed tears. We will definitely do this after our victory.” said.

“When I left my homeland, Crimea, thousands of houses were damaged or destroyed. Hundreds of thousands of people were left without electricity and water,” said Dzhaparova, a Crimean Tatar. he said.

Stating that 352 Ukrainian civilians, including 16 children, have lost their lives so far, Dzhaparova said, “Thousands of people were injured in Ukraine during the 6-day Russian occupation.” she shared her knowledge.

Dzhaparova stated that the youngest of the deceased victims was an 18-month-old baby.

Noting that more than 160,000 civilians were displaced within Ukraine, Dzhaparova pointed out that she was in the same situation when her homeland of Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014.

CALL FOR SUPPORT TO ESTABLISH A UN COMMISSION OF INVESTIGATION

Referring to the special session of the UN Human Rights Council that will be held tomorrow, Dzhaparova reminded that tomorrow the council will hold an “urgent meeting on the human rights situation in Ukraine resulting from Russia’s aggression”.

Dzhaparova requested support from all countries for the draft resolution submitted by Ukraine, which includes the investigation of war crimes allegedly committed by Russia through a mechanism to be established by the UN.

LONG TIME STANDING APPLICATION

Addressing the 47-member Council, Dzhaparova emphasized that the investigation mechanism to be established in order to hold the perpetrators accountable is of vital importance.

After Dzhaparova finished her speech, she received a long standing ovation from the council members present in the hall.

THEY LEFT THE HALL AT LAVROV’S SPEECH

It was reported that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov would personally attend the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council and the Disarmament Conference, which started in Geneva on Monday.

Lavrov’s visit to Geneva was canceled after the European Union (EU) and then Switzerland’s airspaces were closed to Russia.

During Lavrov’s speech at the UN Human Rights Council, which he attended via video message, more than 100 diplomats, primarily from EU countries, the USA, England, Japan and other allied countries, left the hall.
